RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Ministry of Industry reported that excise tax contributions from alcoholic beverages reached IDR 9.28 trillion (USD 552.77 million) in 2025. This figure includes IDR 8.92 trillion from domestic alcoholic beverage excise taxes and IDR 361 billion from imported products.

Minister’s Acting Director General of Agro Industry Putu Juli Ardika said the data shows that the alcoholic beverage industry contributes significantly to the Indonesian economy, particularly through excise tax revenues and foreign exchange earnings from exports.

“The 2025 excise tax for domestic production even increased by 0.73 percent compared to 2024,” Putu Juli said during the 6th Bali Arak Day commemoration in Badung, Bali, on Thursday, January 29, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

From January to November 2025, alcoholic beverages accounted for USD 15.75 million in exports. “The largest exports during this period were type C alcoholic beverages, including arak Bali, with Thailand, China, the Netherlands, and the UAE as destination countries,” Putu Juli said.

He emphasized that the figures reflect growing demand for Indonesian-produced alcoholic beverages and highlight Indonesia’s supportive business climate for establishing an export-oriented production base.

According to Minister Putu Juli, the development of the alcoholic beverage industry is closely tied to local wisdom and regional traditions, such as tuak from North Sumatra, tuo nifaro from Nias, legen from East Java, sopi from East Nusa Tenggara, and swansrai from Papua.

“The diversity of traditional Indonesian alcoholic beverages reflects the nation’s cultural wealth and local heritage, offering a unique advantage that other countries do not have,” he said.

The industry also benefits from Indonesia’s natural attractions, which draw foreign tourists. Bali, for example, accounts for 45 percent of foreign tourist arrivals. The government is leveraging this potential to promote Bali arak producers.

“This is aimed at supporting the tourism sector, advancing the vision and mission of exporting alcoholic beverages overseas, and driving economic growth in Bali Province,” Putu Juli said.

The Ministry of Industry noted that the alcoholic beverage industry is part of the broader food and beverage sector. Its production and distribution are regulated under Presidential Regulation No. 74/2013 and Presidential Regulation No. 49/2019, which classify it as a closed business field.

Through Ministerial Regulation No. 17/2019, the ministry supervises production and quality standards to ensure consistent quality and consumer safety. ***
