RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Indonesia and the United States have finalized the substance of their new tariff agreement, with only a meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and U.S. President Donald Trump left to formally conclude the deal.
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that the agreement, initially expected to be completed by the end of January 2026, has been rescheduled to February.
He emphasized that the final stage of negotiations is essentially ready and faces no substantive obstacles, but requires endorsement at the presidential level.
“We have to consider the schedules of both leaders. They already met recently in Davos,” Minister Airlangga said after attending a Central Inflation Control Team coordination meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, January 29, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Minister Airlangga assured that the tariff negotiations have proceeded smoothly. “There are no obstacles,” he added.
Indonesian Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi also noted that the timeline for concluding the U.S. import tariff policy discussions has shifted to mid-February 2026.
“Perhaps the second week of February. The latest update from the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs suggests that timeframe,” Minister Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28.
He clarified that the delay is not due to substantive issues but rather scheduling adjustments and the need to refine several points of agreement. He added that there are no immediate plans for President Prabowo to travel to the U.S. specifically for the negotiations.
According to Minister Prasetyo, discussions on tariff policy under President Trump’s administration remain ongoing and have not encountered significant material challenges. ***
