RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Indonesia views the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos as a pivotal opportunity to attract green investment and strengthen its role in the global economy.

The annual forum will take place in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23, 2026, and is expected to open significant prospects for the country’s sustainable development agenda.

Bhima Yudhistira, Executive Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios), described Davos as a strategic platform for Indonesia to showcase its energy transition and green economy initiatives. “The government can open dialogue so that more philanthropists are interested in entering sectors that have been underfunded,” Bhima said in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 20, as quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that collaboration with philanthropic institutions could provide crucial financing for energy transition, forest protection, and health services. Such partnerships, he argued, would reduce Indonesia’s reliance on traditional funding sources for environmentally friendly projects.

Bhima noted that global businesses have also expressed strong interest in Indonesia’s roadmap for industrial downstreaming and energy security. He stressed that policy clarity is essential to boost investor confidence in the government’s commitment to building a green economy.

Amid rising geopolitical tensions, Bhima urged Indonesia to position itself as part of the global solution through cross-border economic cooperation.

He said President Prabowo Subianto’s presence in Davos should be maximized not only through keynote speeches but also through bilateral meetings with world leaders to expand trade and investment opportunities.

Bhima identified renewable energy and the battery ecosystem as key areas for green investment at the forum. He cautioned, however, that commitments must be followed by concrete action. “The most crucial thing after the investment commitment is reached is to establish a follow-up team to ensure that it is actually realized,” he said.

He pointed to the floating solar panel project as a strategic opportunity that requires immediate cooperation. Without tangible follow-up, he warned, Indonesia risks losing momentum from Davos.

President Prabowo is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the WEF on Thursday, January 22, 2026, alongside WEF President and CEO Børge Brende.

The forum, established in 1971, annually gathers world leaders, economists, and industry players to discuss global economic trends and the future of sustainable development.

According to the WEF’s official program, Prabowo’s special address will take place from 14:00 to 14:30 local time. Other leaders scheduled to speak include French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
