KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia is preparing a major push to attract global capital at the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Scheduled for January 19 to 23, the event is viewed by the government as a strategic gateway to showcase Indonesia’s political stability and economic potential to the world's most influential financial leaders.
Nurul Ichwan, Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, emphasized that Indonesia’s fundamentals are currently a strong selling point.
Regarding the nation's standing, Nurul stated, "Indonesia is actually considered quite good and has the potential to attract investment because we have a wealth of natural resources, our economy is also growing relatively steadily, and our politics are also stable," as quoted by Antara.
For the 2026 forum, Danantara Indonesia (the national investment management agency) will spearhead the effort to secure partnerships in high-impact sectors.
President Prabowo Subianto is expected to lead the delegation, alongside key economic ministers, to present a unified front for national development.
Mohamad Al-Arief, the Managing Director of Danantara, has identified three primary sectors for international "co-investment" to be showcased at the forum.
Regarding Energy Transition, the government aims to attract global capital for green energy projects and the development of sustainable infrastructure. In the area of Food Security, the focus is on strengthening agricultural supply chains to ensure both national and regional stability.
Finally, for Value-Added Industries, Indonesia is actively promoting downstreaming, or hilirisasi, to ensure that the nation's raw materials are processed domestically before export.
Regarding the agency's focus, Arief noted, "The strategic sectors that are our priority are also strategic priorities on the national development agenda. We are very interested in issues such as energy transition, food security, and the development of value-added industries."
While the government has not yet set a specific dollar amount for investment targets at Davos, the primary objective is to build long-term credibility and a positive global image.
Arief highlighted that Danantara is particularly focused on sectors that drive inclusive growth and job creation for Indonesia’s demographic bonus.
"This is our opportunity to explore and develop new partners there. We can explore long-term partnerships and possible co-investments there," Arief added, signaling that Davos will serve as the starting point for a new wave of international economic cooperation. ***
