KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening responsible digital financial transformation.
OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar delivered the message at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Asia Roundtable on Digital Finance 2025 in Bali.
Mahendra underscored the importance of adaptive policies amid rapid technological developments, stressing that regulators must keep pace with innovation in the digital industry.
“With the development of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI), it is essential to share policy perspectives across countries. We must build a balanced regulatory framework that encourages innovation while safeguarding financial stability and consumer protection,” Mahendra said in a written statement on Monday, December 1, 2025.
He explained that OJK has been laying the foundation for AI governance since 2023, beginning with ethical guidelines for the fintech sector. In April 2025, the authority expanded this framework to the banking sector through the Indonesian Banking Artificial Intelligence Governance policy.
Mahendra also highlighted the need for caution in tokenization innovation, emphasizing that the balance between innovation and stability must be maintained.
National AI Utilization
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto echoed the call to strengthen the foundation for national AI utilization. He said the government is drafting policies to improve digital human resource competencies.
“The financial services sector needs to expand AI innovation. Technology offers more efficient solutions,” Airlangga said.
He added that OECD’s initiatives are constructive for Indonesia as it updates its digital regulatory framework, noting that policy harmonization reflects the country’s commitment to international standards.
Airlangga further explained that strengthening digital regulations will accelerate financial sector transformation and reinforce the foundations of Indonesia’s long-term economy. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
