KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has launched a series of strategic regulations to accelerate biometane development and green investment, unveiled in Jakarta through the ExploRE project, a collaboration with Germany that promotes sustainable energy governance and industrial waste-based biometane.
Acting Director of Bioenergy at the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry Harris said that several of these regulations were developed under the ExploRE project, a collaborative initiative between Indonesia and Germany, designed to strengthen the national biometane policy framework.
“Through this collaboration, we have produced key instruments such as the KBLI 35203 classification for integrated biogas businesses in the OSS BKPM system, the Biomethane Investment Guideline to promote green investment, and an academic manuscript on regulations for converting biogas into biometane,” Harris explained in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He added that these initiatives demonstrate a solid synergy between government, research institutions, industry, and international development partners, laying the groundwork for sustainable biometane governance and investment.
“Beyond technical achievements, this collaboration is expected to serve as a long-term foundation for strengthening energy governance and accelerating the transition to a clean and equitable energy system in Indonesia,” he explained.
Harris noted that these efforts also align with the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) signed in September. The agreement opens opportunities for green economic cooperation, including technology transfer, clean energy exchange, sustainability standards, and trade in renewable energy products leveraging local potential.
“Aligning policy directions reinforces Indonesia’s position as a strategic partner in accelerating green growth and expanding global sustainable investment networks,” Harris added.
He emphasized that the energy transition is not merely a technical agenda but an economic transformation requiring the synergy of all stakeholders.
“Through progressive policies, investment support, and international collaboration, Indonesia is moving toward a cleaner, self-reliant energy future that benefits the welfare of all citizens,” Harris concluded.
Meanwhile, Lisa Tinschert, Director of Energy Programs at GIZ Indonesia/ASEAN, highlighted that the eight-year ExploRE project has produced significant achievements.
“One of ExploRE’s main contributions is fostering an industrial waste-based biometane ecosystem through comprehensive support from policy development, capacity building, and database creation on biometane potential, to public outreach and technical assistance for prospective projects,” Tinschert said. ***
