KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia is boosting its jewelry industry through international exhibitions and strategic policy support, as showcased at the Surabaya International Jewellery Fair (SIJF) 2025 held from October 9–12, 2025. Selected local SMEs were facilitated to promote their handcrafted gold, gemstone, and pearl products to global markets.

“Indonesia, with its long-standing tradition of jewelry making, is producing works that not only appeal to domestic consumers but are also increasingly attracting international buyers,” said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita on Monday, October 13, 2025 in Jakarta, as quoted by kemenperin.go.id.

To support this growing sector, the Industry Ministry is taking active steps to improve market access and strengthen international networks. One such effort includes backing the Surabaya International Jewellery Fair (SIJF) 2025, a key annual event in Indonesia's jewelry calendar.

Organized by the Indonesian Gold and Gemstone Entrepreneurs Association (APEPI), SIJF 2025 marks the 28th edition of the international-scale exhibition. The event showcases premium jewelry products and acts as a business platform connecting producers, raw material suppliers, distributors, and prospective buyers from around the world.

The Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Various Industries (IKMA) also participated by facilitating eight selected small and medium-sized jewelry manufacturers (IKM) to join the exhibition, held in Surabaya from October 9–12, 2025.

During the opening of SIJF 2025, Director General of IKMA Reni Yanita praised APEPI’s consistency in organizing international jewelry exhibitions throughout the year, including the Jakarta International Jewellery Fair (JIJF) and the Bandung Jewellery Fair (BJF).

“These exhibitions serve as vital avenues for expanding market access and enhancing the global promotion of Indonesian jewelry. We hope they contribute positively to the industry's growth,” Reni said.

She emphasized that jewelry is a high value-added sector with strong export potential. Between January and June 2025, Indonesia's exports of jewelry and precious items reached USD 4.05 billion, marking a 23 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024 (USD 3.29 billion).

In 2024, Indonesia held a 2.5 percent share of the global jewelry export market, ranking 12th worldwide. Top export destinations include Switzerland, Hong Kong, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.

This upward trend is supported by growing international interest in Indonesian gold jewelry, prompting the government to further strengthen the industry’s ecosystem.

A notable strategic initiative is the establishment of the Bullion Bank, launched in February 2025 by President Prabowo Subianto. The bank aims to improve liquidity and access to gold financing for the industry, streamline supply chains, and bolster the competitiveness of Indonesia's jewelry sector.

“The Bullion Bank is expected to ease raw material procurement and financing for small and medium jewelry businesses. We are committed to ensuring that the bank’s ecosystem supports IKM players and contributes to national economic growth,” Reni added.

In addition, the Industry Ministry has implemented a range of policies and programs to enhance market access and competitiveness, including participation in domestic and international trade shows, the e-Smart IKM program, business matching initiatives with the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) and Trade Attachés, the Domestic Product Utilization Program (P3DN), machinery restructuring and equipment modernization, and technical training for artisans

Reni also urged industry players to continue innovating, collaborating, and maintaining product quality. “Through events like SIJF 2025, Indonesia is not only keeping pace with global jewelry trends but also has the potential to set new ones that highlight our unique local craftsmanship,” she noted.

Meanwhile, Director of the Diverse Industries Division at IKMA, Reny Meilany, elaborated that the eight IKM participants represent a wide range of products, from gold and gemstone jewelry to pearls, originating from various provinces across IndonesiaThe curated participants include, Maza Handcrafted Pearl and Jewelry, Concha, and DSW Jewellery (West Nusa Tenggara), Suteja Silver (Bali), Nara’s Beads Collection and Vite/Oniecraft (Jakarta), Kiki Gerssom (East Java), Permata Falitha (South Kalimantan)

“These selected SMEs went through a rigorous screening process, including online registration and final evaluation. We hope they use this opportunity not only to sell but also to build networks, gain insights, and form new partnerships,” Reny concluded. ***
