KBRN, Bintan: Bintan Regent Roby Kurniawan received a delegation from the Dongguan Foreign Affairs Bureau, Guangdong Province, China, to discuss potential collaborations that could leverage the regency's diverse opportunities.

The delegation was led by Liang Jiczhao, a member of the CPC Dongguan Standing Committee. Liang conveyed that his visit to Bintan, known as Bumi Melayu region, included several entrepreneurs who are considering investments in Bintan.

One of the key industries being explored is chocolate production, with Dongguan-based manufacturers — already dominant in China’s chocolate market — expressing interest in establishing operations in Bintan.

Plans include securing approximately 1,000 hectares of land for cocoa plantations as a vital step in supporting future investments in chocolate production. “This will be a fundamental support for chocolate production through cocoa cultivation,” Liang stated on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Roby Kurniawan welcomed the investment proposal, affirming the local government’s support, provided it contributes positively to regional development. He also expressed hope that these commitments would materialize promptly.

“We welcome every investment opportunity in Bintan. Ideally, the presence here should not be limited to plantations alone,” Roby remarked.

“We hope to see end-to-end operations based in Bintan, from upstream to downstream, taking advantage of our well-equipped industrial zones,” he added.

Roby further emphasized that the Bintan Regency Government remains open to facilitating investors while ensuring compliance with prevailing regulations. The meeting will proceed with more detailed discussions to outline necessary steps for accelerating investment realization. ***
