RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Culture is accelerating efforts to elevate Indonesian batik onto the global stage by strengthening creative ecosystems, expanding international promotion, and facilitating communal intellectual property protection.
Speaking in Jakarta, Culture Minister Fadli Zon reaffirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding the sustainability of batik as a core element of Indonesia's cultural heritage.
"We facilitate intellectual property registration, such as our recent assistance for the Batik Walang Kekek pattern created by Bu Waljinah," said Minister Fadli on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He emphasized that protecting diverse regional batik motifs preserves cultural authenticity while unlocking tangible economic value for local craftspeople, reinforcing batik's status as a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage.
"What we are doing is promoting, developing, and naturally utilizing these cultural assets to their maximum potential," he added.
Minister Fadli highlighted the positive domestic momentum surrounding the batik ecosystem, noting that batik has successfully evolved from ceremonial attire into everyday wear, creating a sustainable industrial pipeline ranging from fine art to mass manufacturing.
To broaden public engagement, the ministry is leveraging institutions such as the Batik Museum, managed under the Public Service Agency for Museums and Cultural Heritage (BLU MCB), to support community-led initiatives and exhibitions nationwide.
The government anticipates that enhanced international appreciation for archipelago batik patterns will expand domestic employment and foster a more resilient creative economy. ***
