JKT48 Highlights Indonesian Batik in New "Ayo Senyumlah" Costumes

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - JKT48 highlighted Indonesian batik through costumes for its upcoming 28th single, “Ayo Senyumlah” (means "Come on, Smile!"). The costumes feature various batik motifs, showcasing Indonesia’s textile heritage through contemporary popular culture.
JKT48 is an Indonesian idol group based in Jakarta and the first overseas sister group of Japan’s AKB48. The group brings the Japanese idol concept to Indonesia through music, performances, and fan engagement.
The group introduced its new costumes during filming for the “Ayo Senyumlah” music video on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The filming took place during Jakarta’s Car Free Day near Gate 6 of Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan.
Jazzlyn Trisha, the center of “Ayo Senyumlah,” wore several batik motifs in her costume. They include Kawung on the collar, Parang on the sleeves and front, and Kawung and Sekar Jagad on the skirt ruffles.
Feni Fitriyanti wore the Mega Mendung motif, which is associated with Cirebon, West Java. The same motif also appeared in costumes worn by Adeline Wijaya, Shabilqis Naila, and Hillary Abigail.
Freya Jayawardana wore Parang Rusak and Sidomulyo motifs in her costume, based on fan-shared motif identification. Lulu Salsabila and Ribka Budiman also wore Parang Rusak motifs with different fabric combinations.
The costumes bring traditional Indonesian patterns into a modern visual setting through music and youth-oriented entertainment. This presentation allowed batik to reach audiences through a familiar and contemporary pop culture platform.
JKT48 also opened the music video filming to fans, allowing them to participate alongside the members. The participation created an opportunity for fans to become part of the group’s latest visual project.
Indonesian Batik was inscribed by UNESCO in 2009 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The recognition highlights batik’s techniques, symbolism, and cultural traditions as part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
