RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is reinforcing its commitment to literary heritage through the 2026 Indonesian Poetry Day celebration, marking the first observance since the event was officially recognized as part of the country's national cultural agenda. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon attended the celebration in Jakarta on Sunday July 26, 2026 alongside representatives from the literary, academic, and cultural communities.

The event, themed "Menebalkan Makna pada Segala" ("Deepening Meaning in Everything"), was organized by the Indonesian Poetry Day Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. It highlighted poetry as an important cultural expression while encouraging greater public participation in Indonesia's literary development.

In his remarks, Fadli Zon said the government fully supports Indonesian Poetry Day as a tribute to the nation's poets and as an opportunity to strengthen literature as a key pillar of cultural advancement. He noted that the annual commemoration on July 26 also honors the enduring contribution of renowned poet Chairil Anwar to the development of modern Indonesian literature.

"The Ministry of Culture remains committed to strengthening Indonesia's literary ecosystem through various programs and initiatives that support the sustainable development of literature," Fadli said. He explained that these efforts include literary translation laboratories, talent development programs, support for literary festivals and communities, and international promotion of Indonesian literary works.

In addition, the minister affirmed that cultural advancement is a constitutional mandate that requires collaboration among the central and regional governments, educational institutions, cultural communities, and the private sector. According to him, such cooperation is essential to building a stronger literary ecosystem capable of producing works with global relevance.

Fadli also expressed hope that more Indonesian poets, writers, and literary figures would gain recognition at both the national and international levels. "We want to see more poets, authors, and writers achieve outstanding artistic excellence and earn recognition on the international stage," he said.

The celebration featured a wide range of cultural activities, including poetry readings by Indonesian and international poets, poetry musical performances, discussions on Chairil Anwar's legacy, and video greetings from poets around the world. During the event, Fadli presented the 2026 Adiluhung Poetry Award to Acehnese poet Lesik Kati Ara in recognition of his contribution to Indonesian literature.

The Ministry of Culture views Indonesian Poetry Day as an important platform for nurturing emerging literary talent while strengthening appreciation for poetry among younger generations. By expanding literary programs and international collaboration, Indonesia aims to position its rich literary tradition as an integral part of the global cultural landscape.
