RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, marked Indonesian Poetry Day 2026 as a moment to preserve language and record the nation’s journey. He described poetry as the spirit of culture that unites and enlightens Indonesia’s path toward the future.

“Through poetry, we weave together our diversity, foster empathy, and strengthen Indonesia’s identity,” Minister Fadli Zon said in an official statement on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Indonesian Poetry Day also serves as an opportunity to honor poets, writers, and literary activists who have enriched the country’s cultural heritage.

Minister Fadli Zon noted that poets not only beautify and enrich the Indonesian language but also preserve the diversity of regional languages, thereby strengthening national identity and fostering dialogue across generations.

The day is celebrated annually on July 26 to commemorate the birthday of Chairil Anwar, widely recognized as a pioneer of modern Indonesian poetry whose works profoundly influenced national literature.

Minister Fadli Zon added that the ministry welcomes initiatives that promote the growth of Indonesian culture through literature and poetry. “We are committed to giving poetry and other literature a prominent place so that their use can continue to be developed,” he said.

Meanwhile, poet Ariyani Isnamurti emphasized that poetry provides space to listen to the inner voice and nurture conscience. She said poetry strengthens humanity, wisdom, and diversity.

“Poetry reminds us that behind every event lies a message and a value worth reflecting on, cherishing, and inheriting,” Ariyani said. (Gusti Panji)
