Indonesian Youth Orchestra Showcases Archipelago’s Music in Beijing

RRI.CO.ID, Beijing – A musical collaboration introduced Indonesia’s rich culture to the Chinese public as the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing and the Trinity Youth Symphony Orchestra (TRUST) staged “A Musical Tapestry of the Archipelago” at the Century Theatre.

The concert, held on Friday, July 24, 2026, commemorated the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia and strengthened relations between Indonesia and China through art and culture. Around 300 guests attended, including diplomats, government officials, media representatives, academics, students, and members of the Indonesian diaspora.

“Just as an orchestra consists of diverse instruments but produces harmony, the relationship between Indonesia and China is built on mutual respect, understanding, and complementarity. Cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges play a vital role in strengthening the friendship between the two nations,” said Deputy Ambassador of Indonesia to China, Irene, as quoted by Antara.

Irene praised TRUST, noting its international awards reflect the quality, discipline, and competitiveness of Indonesia’s young generation.

TRUST, a non-profit youth orchestra under Trinity Optima Production, is led by Nathania Karina as music director and resident conductor.

Dedicated to nurturing Indonesian talent, TRUST has earned global recognition, including the Outstanding Young Performer Award at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Gold Medal at the 2025 World Orchestra Festival in Vienna, and the Exemplary Orchestra Award at the 2026 International Youth Exchange Concert in Beijing.

At the Beijing concert, TRUST performed 10 pieces representing Indonesia’s cultural diversity, including Laskar Pelangi, Tanah Air, Anging Mammiri, Sirih Kuning, Bungong Jeumpa, Janger, Rayuan Pulau Kelapa, and Yamko Rambe Yamko.

The orchestral arrangements blended traditional and modern elements, introducing the archipelago’s musical heritage to Chinese audiences.

The performance received warm responses. Jin Chengle, a student from Shanghai International Studies University, said it was his first time seeing an Indonesian orchestra. “Their performance was extraordinary. The compositions were excellent, and the blend of traditional nuances was beautiful,” he said.

Another audience member from Tianjin also expressed admiration. “It was wonderful. I’m glad I could watch them perform tonight. They are very talented. The orchestra incorporates other music, such as jazz and pop, which makes it very interesting,” she said.

Irene emphasized that Indonesia–China relations are built not only on political and economic cooperation but also on people-to-people interactions that foster mutual understanding, trust, and lasting friendship.

“We will continue to encourage collaboration in arts, culture, education, and youth so that more Indonesian talents can perform and excel internationally while strengthening friendship between Indonesia and China,” she said. ***
