Fadli Zon Explores Cooperation on Palestinian Cultural Heritage Preservation

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, explored opportunities for cooperation in preserving Palestinian cultural heritage and developing a Palestinian cultural museum during a meeting with academician Shofwan Al Banna Choiruzzad, along with Thoriq and Saleh, in Jakarta on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Culture office, discussed potential collaboration in the field of cultural heritage preservation, particularly related to museum development and Palestinian cultural programs.
Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, said that the development of cultural cooperation needs to be supported by strong program substance and qualified human resources. “Substance is important, perhaps exhibitions, narratives, storytelling, how Indonesia supports the Palestinian people, and how the government and parliament provide support,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shofwan Al Banna Choiruzzad, expressed appreciation for the reception given by the Ministry of Culture to the Palestinian delegation. Thoriq, who is based in Ramallah, explained that the foundation they manage has three main missions: the protection and preservation of Palestinian artifacts and cultural heritage, empowerment of local communities, and strengthening public education.
According to him, these efforts are aimed at strengthening the resilience of the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice amid the prolonged conflict.
On the same occasion, Dr. Saleh expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s support for Palestine, including its condemnation of acts of genocide occurring in the region. He also described the conditions faced by people in the West Bank, including restricted mobility, limited access to education, and socio-economic pressures caused by the ongoing conflict.
The meeting also discussed opportunities for collaborative programs, including organizing Palestinian cultural exhibitions and strengthening museum networks in Indonesia.
In addition, the discussion opened opportunities for exploring cross-sector support through cooperation with various institutions and stakeholders to support cultural and humanitarian programs related to Palestine. The Ministry of Culture reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cultural relations between Indonesia and Palestine through collaboration in cultural heritage preservation, museum development, and strengthening cultural diplomacy based on humanitarian values and international solidarity.
