RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Francophonie Week 2026 has been officially opened on April 20 to 24, 2026. The event opened with warm remarks from several ambassadors of Francophone countries at the Institut Français Indonésie (IFI) in Jakarta on Monday, April 20, 2026.

This annual event features a variety of engaging activities, including musical performances, visual exhibitions, and film screenings from various French-speaking countries.

This year’s Francophonie Week Chairperson, Dan Adrian Bălănescu, conveyed the significance of the event. The Romanian Ambassador emphasized the importance of unity through language and culture.

“Practically this event, the Francophonie Week, is an example that people from different countries come together to celebrate one language, but not only one language, it's a culture,” Bălănescu said following the opening ceremony.

He also explained that this celebration invites everyone to explore the identity of each nation. This fosters strong connections among people through the medium of the French language.

On the same occasion, the French Ambassador to Indonesia, Fabien Penone, also shared his views on global communication. According to him, language proficiency makes it easier for a person to connect with a wider world.

Penone stated, “Language is also the best way to encapsulate the culture of the country, the spirit of the people, the values.”

He added that Francophonie Week promotes not only one language, but also celebrates linguistic diversity and values the differences in languages across various countries.
