Indonesia Encourages Music Industry Through Cross-Border Collaboration

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Vice Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, discussed collaboration opportunities during a meeting with Background Entertainment and KANVERSE Korea in Jakarta. The discussion concerned music industry development, creative content production, and creating an international platform for Indonesian talent.
"Indonesia has enormous creative talent and a strong market. Through partnerships with international industry players like Big Ground Entertainment and KANVERSE, we can open more opportunities for Indonesian musicians to perform on the global stage while strengthening the national music industry ecosystem," Vice Minister of Creative, Economy Irene, in a meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
This meeting was a follow-up to a previous audience between the Ministry of Creative Economy and Big Ground Entertainment, which discussed opportunities for synergy between the Indonesian and Korean music industries, including developing musical talent, producing joint works, and opening access to the international stage through strengthening the intellectual property (IP) music ecosystem. Irene also affirmed that cross-border collaboration is a strategic step to expand global market access while strengthening the capacity of national creative industry players.

She added that developing music IP, producing collaborative works, and organizing cross-border performances can be a catalyst for the growth of the music subsector as part of the creative economy, which the government continues to promote as the new engine of growth.
During the meeting, the two parties also discussed various collaboration opportunities, including joint music production between Indonesian and South Korean creators, organizing performances in various cities across Asia, and Developing entertainment content that can be produced and marketed globally.
Big Ground Entertainment CEO Kevin Hermanto stated that Indonesia has significant potential for the development of the Asian entertainment industry, particularly in terms of creative talent and a broad audience base.
"We want to bring together artists and creators from Indonesia and Korea to create works together. Through music production, performances, and entertainment content development, we hope this collaboration can open new opportunities for Indonesian talent to reach a global audience," Kevin Hermanto said.
Meanwhile, KANVERSE Korea CEO Seo Min-Kyu believes that cross-border partnerships are key to expanding the reach of the music industry amidst the dynamics of the global entertainment industry.
"We see great potential in cooperation between Indonesia and Korea, both in developing musical works, exchanging creators, and expanding content distribution to the international market," Seo Min-Kyu said.
Through this discussion, the Ministry of Creative Economy hopes that the synergy between industry players from both countries will strengthen the national music ecosystem and open more opportunities for Indonesian creators to connect with the global entertainment industry network.
