RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Despite budget and resource constraints, the Ministry of Culture is accelerating its efforts to preserve national cultural heritage by fostering cross-sector collaboration. In 2025 alone, 152 cultural heritage sites and museums were revitalized across various regions of Indonesia.
The Director General of Cultural and Tradition Protection (PKT) at the Ministry of Culture, Restu Gunawan, said that this achievement is due to a strategic partnership with the private sector and the involvement of various regional stakeholders.
"Our achievements include 152 revitalizations of cultural heritage sites and museums. These include the Tiger Cave Museum, the Belitung Maritime Museum, and several other museums. This demonstrates that preservation can be accelerated through collaborative efforts," Restu said during a hearing with the Working Committee on Cultural Heritage Preservation and Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Monday, February 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Furthermore, the Cultural Preservation Centers in various regions have carried out restoration work on cultural heritage sites such as the Kayu Jao Mosque in Solok Regency, the Gunongan Site in Aceh, and the Arjuna Temple.
Restu explained the restoration of cultural heritage buildings has often been slow because they are generally only able to target one structure per year. However, through the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme, this limitation is beginning to be overcome.
In 2025, the Ministry of Culture partnered with the private sector to construct and renovate the Sanggabuwana Stage at the Surakarta Palace and the Ranggawarsita Tomb in Klaten. Additionally, the participation of vocational high school (SMK) students who received specialized training increased the effectiveness of the restoration efforts.
"Collaboration with the private and education sectors is a real solution to accelerate the preservation of cultural heritage," said Restu.
In terms of management, the Museum and Cultural Heritage Public Service Agency (BLU)'s performance has also shown positive results. By 2025, BLU revenue reached IDR 62 billion, surpassing the IDR 57 billion target by 145.4 percent.
Moving forward, the Ministry of Culture is committed to optimizing the responsible use of cultural heritage and museums. They aim to utilize these spaces not only for education and preservation but also as drivers of economic and social benefits for the community.
"The potential of cultural heritage and museums remains enormous. The challenge is managing them sustainably without diminishing the importance of the nation's cultural heritage," Restu said. ***
