Indonesian Independence Day Celebration Showcases Traditional Attire

KBRN, Jakarta: The 80th Independence Day celebration of Indonesia became even more vibrant with the colorful traditional costumes at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. Several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet appeared wearing traditional attire from various provinces on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Health Minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin attended the event wearing Batak traditional clothes. "I wear Batak attire because my wife is Batak," said Minister Budi upon arriving at the Merdeka Palace.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, chose Solo traditional attire for this independence celebration. He mentioned that he has worn various traditional attires in previous years, from Papua, Sulawesi, to Maluku.

"This is the 80th Independence Day, now I am wearing Javanese attire," said Bahlil, who attended with his wife.

President Prabowo Subianto himself wore ivory-colored Nusantara traditional clothing. The outfit was completed with a black peci hat, a songket sarong cloth, and a string of white jasmine flowers draped around his neck.

Celebrities also enlivened the atmosphere with traditional costumes. Raffi Ahmad and Nagita Slavina both wore traditional Javanese attire for the independence celebration.

He then expressed his hope that all people contribute positively according to their respective paths. "The most important is devotion to the nation and homeland, always positive," Raffi added.

This expression became an inspirational message amid the independence celebration atmosphere.

Ambassadors from friendly countries also attended wearing complete formal suits with ties. Some were seen adding sunglasses for comfort during the procession at the Merdeka Palace.

The public did not want to be left out; many attended wearing traditional clothes from their respective regions. The colorful attire of the people added to the festivity and demonstrated unity in diversity during the independence moment. ***
