RRI.CO.ID, Singkawang - The Singkawang City Administration was officially named a World-Class Cultural Tourism Innovator City at the 2026 Tribun Pontianak (a local media outlet) Awards held at the Novotel Hotel Pontianak on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Singkawang Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie directly accepted the award alongside the heads of the local Youth, Sports, and Tourism Agency and the Information and Communications Agency. Held under the theme Resilient West Kalimantan Collaboration" the award highlights Singkawang's success in leveraging its harmonious multi-ethnic identity, comprising Chinese, Malay, and Dayak traditions, into a premier cultural tourism destination.
Renowned as the City of a Thousand Temples and globally recognized for its annual Cap Go Meh celebrations, the city continues to strengthen its infrastructure, culinary appeal, and cultural innovation to position West Kalimantan on the international stage.
The Mayor of Singkawang dedicated the award to the city's residents for maintaining harmony and cultural legacy.
"On behalf of the Singkawang City Administration and all residents, we express our deepest gratitude for receiving the award as a World-Class Cultural Tourism Innovator City, the core strength of Singkawang lies in our cultural diversity living side by side, proving that tolerance is our primary asset for regional development," she Tjhai said in Pontianak on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as quoted by Infopublik.id.
The Mayor stressed that the accolade serves as motivation for continued public service and innovation. She said that the award not as a final peak, but as the beginning of a greater responsibility to continually improve and innovate,
"The city administration will continue to strengthen innovation, cross-sectoral collaboration, and cultural tourism potential so that Singkawang remains a top destination in Indonesia while elevating West Kalimantan internationally," Tjhai Chui Mie added. ***
