DPR Steps In to Rebuild Fire-Gutted Sade Village in Lombok

RRI.CO.ID, Praya – Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) moved to assist residents after a massive fire engulfed the renowned Sade Traditional Settlement in Rambitan Village, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday, 22 August 2026. Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sari Yuliati, said she has coordinated with relevant parties to ensure that the tourist village can be revitalized.
Sari made the statement during her visit on Sunday, 23 August 2026. She spoke with locals and observed firsthand the cleanup of debris left by the fire.
"I have coordinated to ensure that the revitalization and development in Sade Traditional Village can be carried out immediately. This is not just a disaster for one village, but a deep sorrow for all of us," Sari said in a statement as published on the DPR website.
At least 120 buildings, built of wood and bamboo with thatched roofs, were destroyed. There were no casualties, but residents were still sifting through the remains of their homes as of Sunday.
During her visit, Sari handed out cash assistance and 100 packages of necessities to affected residents, and assured them that further assistance would be provided through central government programs.
She emphasized that restoring customary areas would be a special focus of the House. In addition to handing over aid, Sari visited health posts to ensure that services for affected residents were running quickly and effectively.
"Thank you to Mrs. Sari, who personally visited the residents and provided cash and basic food aid. Her presence truly encouraged them," Head of Rambitan Village, Lalu Winakse, said.
Sade Traditional Village is home to the Sasak people, whose culture remains well preserved. It is known as one of the cultural tourism icons in Lombok, an island located just east of Bali.
