RRI.CO.ID, Palangka Raya - The Central Kalimantan Provincial Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving local culture by holding traditional sports competitions and folk games at Isen Mulang Palace in Palangka Raya. The annual event, organized to commemorate Indonesia’s 81st Independence Anniversary, was also used to preserve traditional roots and strengthen regional identity.
“This is about togetherness as we celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day,” said Central Kalimantan Governor, Agustiar Sabran, in Palangka Raya on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The competitions included tug-of-war, the pole-climbing contest, sack races, marble races, and other traditional games. A karaoke competition featuring patriotic songs was also held to further foster nationalism and add to the festive atmosphere of the Independence Day celebrations.
Central Kalimantan Deputy Governor, Edy Pratowo, said the event was part of a series of activities commemorating the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, organized in a lively and joyful manner.
“The event is not merely a form of entertainment. We hope it will also strengthen bonds of brotherhood and foster a spirit of unity within the community,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
The event is being held for the second consecutive year. A similar activity was held at the same venue last year and received an enthusiastic response from participants. “We hope activities like this can continue to be held as a way to maintain the spirit of unity, strengthen fellowship, and build a sense of family among participants,” he said.
Central Kalimantan Regional Secretary, Linae Victoria Aden, said the event involved various segments of the community and administration institutions. Participants included representatives of central government agencies, regional administration organizations, state-owned enterprises, regionally owned enterprises, the Indonesian Military, the National Police, banks, and youth organizations.
“Through the involvement of these various groups, we hope fellowship among participants will grow stronger and create an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and joy as we commemorate the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence,” she said. ***
