Bekasi Regency Adopts Modern Farming to Improve Farmers’ Welfare

RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi Regency - The Bekasi Regency Agriculture Agency in West Java continues to work to improve farmers’ welfare through the adoption of modern farming practices. One such initiative is the modern agriculture, such as Advanced Agriculture System (PM-AAS) program, which uses a direct-seeding method known as Tabela.
In August 2026, the Bekasi Regency Agriculture Agency began piloting the program on a 4,000-square-meter demonstration plot owned by the Warudoyong I Farmers’ Group in Sukabungah Village, Bojongmangu Subdistrict.
Bojongmangu Subdistrict Agricultural Extension Coordinator, Ubuh Buhori, said PM-AAS was one of the Agriculture Ministry’s agricultural modernization innovations. The program is being implemented in cooperation with agricultural extension officers and farmer groups to increase both rice productivity and cultivation efficiency.
He said the PM-AAS program in Bojongmangu would serve as a demonstration plot that could eventually be developed in every village. Each demonstration area would cover at least two hectares, enabling farmers to directly observe the application of modern agricultural technology.
“The Agriculture Ministry has set a target of 10 tons per hectare, while productivity in Bojongmangu currently stands at only five tons per hectare. Through PM-AAS, we hope to achieve that target,” said Ubuh on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
He expressed hope that the PM-AAS program would encourage farmers to shift from conventional cultivation methods to modern agricultural technology, thereby increasing productivity and improving farmers’ welfare.
“The program is expected to support the achievement of food self-sufficiency in the region. This goal will be pursued through collaboration among farmers, farmer groups, agricultural extension officers, the Agency for Agricultural Research and Modernization (BRMP), and the Bekasi Regency Agriculture Agency,” he said.
Meanwhile, Warudoyong I Farmers’ Group Chairperson, Yusup Saepuloh, welcomed the implementation of the PM-AAS program. He also hoped that the pilot project could eventually be expanded.
“We hope the results of this trial can serve as a reference before the program is implemented more widely among all members of the farmers’ group, so that its benefits can truly be felt by farmers,” he said. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
