Hundreds of Villages in Banten Left Without Clean Water Amid Drought

RRI.CO.ID, Banten - A total of 415 villages across 105 subdistricts in Banten Province have been mapped as potentially vulnerable to drought due to the extreme dry season. So far, clean water assistance has reached only 139 villages.
“Based on the mapping results, around 105 subdistricts or 415 villages are facing clean water shortages. Of that number, around 275 villages have not yet been reached by clean water distribution,” said Head of the Banten Provincial Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Lutfi Mujahidin, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Lutfi estimated that this year’s dry season will last longer. For that reason, addressing the impact of drought is seen as requiring the involvement of multiple parties.
He said tanker trucks remain the main measure for urgent clean water distribution. However, the administration is also preparing long-term solutions so that residents will no longer struggle to access clean water during the dry season.
“The Banten Provincial Administration is conducting technical studies to measure the depth of water sources that can be optimized for the common good, including involving the local administrations that need them,” he said.
The same was conveyed by Banten Province Energy and Mineral Resources Agency Head, Ari James Faraddy. His office has deployed personnel to a number of areas that are potentially affected by drought.
They have been tasked with searching for water sources that will later be used through the construction of drilled wells. After the sources are found, the administrations will proceed with installing pumps, building reservoirs, and setting up clean water distribution networks.
“These free drilled wells are intended to meet household needs, bathing needs, and irrigation for agricultural land. Once the technical study is completed, we will hand it over to the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Agency for the physical technical work,” he said. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
