South Jakarta Launches Teman Cerita for Student to Prevent Bullying

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - To prevent teenagers from sharing their problems in the wrong places, South Jakarta City Administration has launched the Teman Cerita (Talk Buddy) channel. This peer-counselor chat service is available to students free of charge, 24 hours a day, to address a range of adolescent issues from bullying and premarital sex to violence.
"Not only violence, but also bullying, free sex, drugs, reproductive health, and the legal age of marriage are among the topics these youth educators will cover," said Head of the South Jakarta Sub-Agency for Child Empowerment, Protection and Population Control (PPAPP), Rizky Hamid, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.
He said the channel was created so students have a safe space to share concerns with trained peers. "Teman Cerita is expected to open up dialogue about many problems occurring in schools. This program is intended to prevent the common issues adolescents face," Rizky said.
As reported by Antara, students who join the Youth Information and Counseling Center (PIK-R) will be equipped with basic skills to listen to peers and identify problems. If a case requires further intervention, the peer counselor will refer the student to professional services, such as the Technical Implementation Unit for Women and Child Protection (UPT PPA) or health services.
Rizky said peer counselors are selected from students who show concern for their peers, such as student council members or class representatives who volunteer. There is no fixed limit on the number of counselors per school, but on average each school has five to seven PIK-R members who receive training and mentoring.
The program is implemented collaboratively with the Health, Education, and Library and Archives Sub-Agency. Outreach to schools across South Jakarta is being conducted in phases.
Rizky added that Teman Cerita uses a chat-based system with free 24-hour access so students can raise concerns with peer counselors at any time. "We want to ensure children do not confide in the wrong people. If professional help is needed, they will be connected to appropriate services," said Rizky. ***
