RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Regional-owned Public Transportation Company PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) has officially launched a new sightseeing service called the Open Top Tour of Jakarta - Jakarta Batavia route. This service invites the public to trace the capital’s history from the top of an open-top bus.
The Jakarta Batavia route expands Transjakarta’s Open Top Tour offerings, which now include four themed sightseeing routes, such as Jakarta Skyline, Jakarta Heritage, Jakarta Seaside, and Jakarta Batavia.
The new service is part of Transjakarta’s commitment, in collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Administration, to deliver a tourism experience that blends public transportation with the city’s history, culture, and urban spaces.
Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, said the city’s long history has shaped its present identity, and the Open Top Tour Jakarta Batavia offers a fresh way to rediscover that history.
“We pass through these places every day, but we rarely really see them, that’s the importance of this route. The Open Top Tour of Jakarta is more than a sightseeing bus with an open roof, it invites people to revisit the story of the city they live in,” he said on Monday, 27 July 2026.
He added that the journey from Sarinah to Kota Tua lets passengers appreciate Jakarta’s character from a different perspective and better understand the living history embodied in the city’s buildings, districts, and public spaces.
Transjakarta President Director, Welfizon Yuza, said launching the Jakarta Batavia route reflects the company’s commitment to providing services that go beyond mere public transport to offer new experiences for customers.
“Transjakarta continues to innovate to deliver services that add value for customers. Through the Jakarta Batavia route, we want to invite the public to enjoy Jakarta from a different perspective,” he said.
The Jakarta Batavia route connects Sarinah to Kota Tua using an open-top bus equipped with an audio guide. During the trip, passengers receive narrated information about Jakarta’s history and its heritage buildings.
With the addition of Jakarta Batavia, customers now have four Open Top Tour options:
1. Jakarta Skyline: This route showcases the Sudirman and MH Thamrin corridors, especially attractive at sunset and after dark.
2. Jakarta Heritage: This route visits notable historic buildings and districts, including the Philately Building (Gedung Filateli), Pasar Baru, Gedung Kesenian Jakarta, Lapangan Banteng, Istiqlal Mosque, the Jakarta Cathedral, and the State Palace.
3. Jakarta Seaside: This route highlights Jakarta’s coastal side, including the Pantai Indah Kapuk area, offering scenic views different from the other tours.
4. Jakarta Batavia: The newest route traces Batavia’s historical landmarks from Sarinah to Kota Tua.
Tickets for the Open Top Tour Jakarta Batavia can be purchased via the TJ app. The fare is IDR 75,000 (USD 4.17) per person. Initially, the service will operate with one open-top bus with daily departures.
Transjakarta hopes the Jakarta Batavia route will become an educational alternative for urban tourism and strengthen the role of public transportation as part of the city experience.
