RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The North Jakarta City Administration has officially partnered with the North Jakarta Theatre Association (ITERA) for the 2026 Student Theatre Festival (FTP) to raise standards and improve performing arts coaching at the school level.
“The festival, which serves as both a platform for expression and an arts‑development program for students, received an outstanding response. Of 16 groups that registered, only 10 passed the curation process and earned the right to perform before a panel of professional judges,” said Head of the North Jakarta Cultural Sub‑Agency, Dya Perwita Kusuma, in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
FTP 2026 is being held from July 20–27 at the Aki Tirem Center for Arts and Cultural Training (PPSB), Jalan Yos Sudarso, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. Dya said the Student Theatre Festival is an annual, tiered program. This year’s edition, organized in collaboration with ITERA, seeks to raise the competition’s quality.
During the weeklong program, two theatre groups perform each day from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jakarta time. Each staging explores varied themes and social messages, demonstrating students’ ability to shape ideas, bring characters to life, and communicate messages through performance.
She expressed hope that the festival would be more than a competition, serving also as a learning and appreciation space that deepens students’ love of theatre.
“May this event be a platform for students to express themselves, develop creativity, and help preserve theatre arts among the younger generation,” said Dya.
Head of Development Section at the North Jakarta Cultural Sub‑Agency, Wawan Setiawan, named the 10 participating groups, which are Teater Adi Kari (State Senior High School 80), Teater Delta (State Senior High School 83), Teater Selam (State Senior High School 72), Pelaku Teater (State Senior High School 40), Teater Roket (State Senior High School 23), Bila Teater (State Senior High School 92), Teater S’Tea (Vocational High School Sejahtera), Teater Empat Wajah (State Vocational High School 4), Teater Salim (State Vocational High School 55), and Teater Anantara (State Senior High School 114).
He said theatre plays an important role in shaping young people’s character. Beyond honing acting skills, theatre builds self‑confidence, teamwork, creativity, and the ability to understand diverse perspectives.
“Through theatre, students learn to understand the characters they portray, which helps form stronger personalities,” said Wawan.
The top three winners will represent North Jakarta at the Jakarta Provincial Student Theatre Festival. In addition to the overall champion title, participants will compete for several awards, including Best Director; Best Lead Actor and Actress; Best Supporting Actor and Actress; Best Music Director; Best Artistic Director; Best Makeup; Best Lighting; Best Costume; and Best Stage and Production Management.
Organizers have allocated development prizes of IDR 12,500,000 (USD 698.70) for first place, IDR 10,000,000 (USD 558.97) for second, and IDR 8,500,000 (USD 475.13) for third. Winners will be announced at the festival’s closing night on July 27, 2026.
One participant, 17‑year‑old Prana Pratama Putra from Teater Selam State High School 72 Jakarta, said he was proud to be part of the festival. Together with 15 teammates, he has prepared intensively since last year to deliver their best performance.
“We present a theme about today’s youth lifestyle. Preparation has been long, but we remain united and optimistic about performing at our best and advancing to the provincial level,” said Prana. ***
