RRI.CO.ID, Badung - The Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) in Bali has formally taken custody of a Palestinian refugee suspected of violating national immigration laws by running an unauthorized tourism venture on Nusa Lembongan Island.
The 35-year-old individual, identified by his initials MAFA, was officially detained on Friday, September 11, 2026, after initially being held on temporary referral on Wednesday, September 9. The detention followed a field inspection by Klungkung Immigration Office officers triggered by local community reports in Jungutbatu Village, Nusa Lembongan, Klungkung Regency.
Investigators discovered evidence that MAFA was actively promoting travel and tour packages across social media platforms without appropriate authorization. Deemed in breach of Article 75, Paragraph (1) of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration, MAFA was transferred to the Rudenim facility in Jimbaran for detailed legal review.
Immigration authorities emphasized that handling cases involving recognized refugees requires close multilateral coordination with international humanitarian agencies to align national security enforcement with global conventions.
Head of Rudenim Denpasar Teguh Mentalyadi clarified the legal status and ongoing inter-agency coordination regarding the refugee's case. "Currently, we are carrying out an in-depth investigation regarding further handling of the individual concerned, the handling of this case requires specialized steps because the subject is known to hold official refugee status," Teguh said in Jimbaran, Badung Regency, on Friday, September 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara
Therefore, Rudenim Denpasar will coordinate further with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as well as other relevant parties to ensure subsequent immigration measures are executed in accordance with applicable regulations.
