RRI.CO.ID, Sukadana - A new bridge, called Way Bungur Bridge, is being built in East Lampung Regency, Lampung, to cut travel time by almost two hours. Previously abandoned for years due to a corruption case, this time the bridge construction is receiving full attention even from the Indonesian central government.

The bridge, also known as the Kali Pasir Bridge, is a key link between East Lampung and Central Lampung regencies. Acting Head of the Public Works and Public Housing Office of East Lampung Regency, Primadiartha Ramadheni, confirms this.

"Not only in East Lampung Regency, but also in Central Lampung Regency. So if we take a detour, it usually takes two hours. But with this bridge, it might only take 10 minutes," she said, as quoted from Indonesia's Vice Presidential Secretariat website on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Without bridge access, students and local residents have had to cross the river using simple wooden boats to carry out their daily activities. The limited number of boats also makes community mobility less than optimal.

Indonesia's Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka even personally inspect the construction on Wednesday. He reiterated the government's commitment to accelerating infrastructure development to strengthen connectivity, expand public access, and boost regional economic growth.

"This review is part of the implementation of President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita (eight missions), particularly in accelerating the development of quality and equitable infrastructure as a foundation for equitable development and strengthening the national economy," the secretariat said.

In a field dialogue with Vice Governor of Lampung, Jihan Nurlela, Regent of East Lampung, Ela Siti Nuryamah, and East Lampung people, Gibran asked that the emergency bridge be completed within two weeks, the end of July 2026 so that two-wheeled vehicles and students can cross the bridge.

"The emergency bridge will be finished in two weeks. The permanent bridge will also be built soon," he said. The Vice President emphasized that accelerating infrastructure development requires strong synergy between the central and regional governments. He stated that various obstacles, both technical and non-technical, must be resolved through intensive coordination.

"Development requires synergy with regional heads, both technical and non-technical, including land acquisition. Regions must be proactive," he said.

Furthermore, Gibran stated that the government will implement a priority scale in infrastructure development and repair. He also said the government will prioritize roads and bridges that have a direct impact on the community's economic activities.

"We will prioritize road points that need to be repaired, especially roads that support economic activities," he stressed.
