RRI.CO.ID, Banjarnegara - Klampok ceramics and the Ujungan traditional ritual from Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java, have been officially designated as Indonesia’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). The recognition was ratified during the 2026 Intangible Cultural Heritage Determination Session held by the Ministry of Culture on Friday, 3 July 2026.

The designation marks national recognition of two distinctive cultural heritages from Banjarnegara that have long been preserved and passed down by the local community. The Ujungan traditional ritual was classified under the domain of community customs, rites, and celebrations, while Klampok ceramics were placed under the domain of traditional craftsmanship and skills.

Head of the Banjarnegara Tourism and Culture Agency, Tursiman, expressed gratitude for the achievement. He said the recognition reflects appreciation for the cultural preservation efforts carried out by various parties in Banjarnegara.

“Praise be to God, at today’s determination session, two Banjarnegara proposals, namely the Ujungan traditional ritual and Klampok ceramics, were successfully designated as Indonesia’s Intangible Cultural Heritage,” said Tursiman on Monday, 6 July 2026.

He said the success was the result of collaboration among the local administration, cultural practitioners, community groups, academics, cultural masters, and the public, who have consistently worked to preserve Banjarnegara’s traditional heritage and crafts.

“This is a source of pride for the people of Banjarnegara and also a motivation for us to continue preserving, protecting, and developing our regional cultural heritage so that it endures and is known by future generations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Culture Division at the Banjarnegara Tourism and Culture Agency, Kuat Herry Isnanto, explained that the local administration proposed three cultural works this year for designation as Indonesia’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. One other proposal has not yet been designated, as it still requires document refinement based on the evaluation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Expert Team.

According to Kuat, the designation of the two Indonesian Intangible Cultural Heritage items is expected to further strengthen the administration’s commitment to protecting, developing, utilizing, and fostering cultural assets.

Beyond reinforcing regional cultural identity, he also expressed confidence that the achievement could encourage the development of sustainable culture-based tourism in Banjarnegara Regency.

“This achievement is not only recognition of Banjarnegara’s cultural identity but is also expected to support the development of sustainable culture-based tourism,” he said. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
