RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta and Singapore are exploring expanded cooperation in investment and urban transport as both sides seek to strengthen economic ties and support the Indonesian capital’s ambition to become a global city.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo met Singapore’s Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan during the Rising Fellowship program in Singapore on June 14-15, 2026.

The discussions focused on strengthening Jakarta-Singapore partnerships in investment, urban development, public transportation, capacity building for civil servants, and other strategic areas that support Jakarta’s ongoing transformation.

Pramono described Singapore as one of Asia’s most important economic and investment hubs as well as a strategic partner for Jakarta. He said closer relations with Singapore could help attract new investment, accelerate transit-oriented urban development, and expand collaboration in city management aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.

“Jakarta is preparing for a new leap forward as it approaches its 500th anniversary. For that, we need more strategic partnerships and investments that can accelerate the city’s transformation,” Pramono said on Wednesday, June 17, as quoted by Antara.

He added that cooperation with Singapore could create more concrete opportunities in transportation, urban development, capacity building, and investment projects that directly benefit Jakarta’s residents.

Pramono said the meetings addressed two of Jakarta’s key priorities: expanding international partnerships and speeding up urban transformation. Through closer cooperation with Singapore, Jakarta aims to attract more investment, strengthen connectivity, and advance its goal of becoming a global city.

During talks with Chee Hong Tat, discussions covered transit-oriented development, urban regeneration, public spaces, and efforts to improve residents’ quality of life. Jakarta also expressed interest in expanding investment cooperation and learning from Singapore’s experience in developing modern cities.

“Our target is not merely to enter the Top 50 Global Cities. More importantly, we want to ensure that investment, public transportation, and urban development genuinely make life easier, more comfortable, and more productive for Jakarta residents,” he added.

Meanwhile, Vivian Balakrishnan welcomed the meeting and described Jakarta as a city with strong energy and dynamism. He highlighted the close relationship between Singapore and Jakarta, including extensive air connectivity and strong people-to-people ties.

“Jakarta is a city with extraordinary energy and dynamism. More than 200 flights each week connect Singapore and Jakarta, reflecting the warmth and closeness of our people-to-people relations,” Vivian said. ***
