RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - The atmosphere during the Ascension Day holiday in Indonesia’s future capital city, Nusantara, became more lively this weekend. Crowds of visitors gathered at the government center while Nusantara Park collaborated with the Balikpapan Reptile Exotic Community (Barekso) to host a reptile and exotic animal exhibition.

The event offered not only entertainment, but also education for the public. Visitors learned about different reptile species and the importance of responsible animal care. Several exotic animals from outside Indonesia were also introduced during the exhibition.

More than 20 kinds of animals were displayed at the event. Visitors could see turtles, iguanas, ball pythons, reticulated pythons, African Fat-Tailed Geckos, and leopard geckos. Children and adults were enthusiastic as they asked questions, took photos, and interacted with some of the animals under supervision.

Bayu, a member of Barekso, said many visitors were interested in reptiles that are safe to handle. “Usually visitors are attracted to animals like ball pythons, iguanas, and reticulated pythons because they can hold them and take pictures directly,” he explained.

He also hoped the exhibition could shift public perceptions about reptiles. “We want people to understand that not all reptiles are dangerous. Reptiles are living creatures that require proper care and responsible owners,” Bayu added.

One visitor from Sepaku, Ubay, said he deliberately brought his children to the exhibition so they could learn more about animals firsthand. He said his children were very happy to see the reptiles up close for the first time.

Ubay also expressed hope that similar events in Nusantara could expand further in the future. “I hope there will be larger exhibitions in IKN with more kinds of animals, including birds and other wildlife,” he said.

During the long holiday from 14 May to 17 May , visitors could also explore the State Palace area and the glamping site in Nusantara. Both locations were opened to the public until 5 p.m. local time each day.

Public enthusiasm for visiting Nusantara remained high throughout the holiday period. Besides enjoying the scenery, culinary offerings, and entertainment, many visitors were also interested in seeing the ongoing development of Indonesia’s future capital city.

Meanwhile, OIKN spokesperson, Troy Pantouw, said people from many regions and different age groups seemed to enjoy the atmosphere in Nusantara. “Visitors are enjoying the scenery, culinary experiences, entertainment, as well as educational and environmental activities during the holiday period,” he said on Sunday.

He also emphasized that development in Nusantara continues based on the schedule. According to him, the second phase of construction is currently focused on completing facilities and infrastructure for the legislative and judicial areas.
