RRI.CO.ID, Bandarlampung - The Lampung Provincial Administration is developing a modified cassava flour (mocaf) industry in Pringsewu Regency to create a market for locally grown cassava.

Mocaf is a gluten-free, fermented cassava flour with a neutral aroma, often used as a healthier alternative to wheat flour.

“The development of mocaf is one form of downstream processing of cassava, a commodity with great potential in Lampung Province,” said Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal on Saturday, April 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Last month, Governor Mirza inspected production facilities in Pringsewu, including cassava soaking, drying, and storage. The flour produced meets a fineness standard of up to 80 mesh and is ready to be marketed across Lampung. “This effort is important for strengthening food self-sufficiency and boosting the regional economy,” he said.

He explained that mocaf industrialization could drive inclusive economic growth. “Processing cassava into mocaf increases the added value of local commodities, encourages economic growth, and strengthens regional food security,” he said.

“The development of mocaf in Pringsewu is an important step in food diversification, while also strengthening the local, commodity-based community economy,” he added.

Pringsewu Regent Riyanto Pamungkas noted that SMEs in the regency are already engaged in mocaf production. “This product is the result of cassava downstream processing and can be a healthy alternative to wheat flour in various food products,” he said.

He added that cassava downstreaming aims to increase its added value while encouraging community involvement at every stage of production. ***
