RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar -Marking Idul Fitri 1447 Hijriah, the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections at the Indoneaian Ministry of Immigratiion and Correction granted sentence reductions to 1,639 inmates across the island.

“Of them, 26 Muslim inmates were granted immediate release,” said Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, Decky Nurmansyah, in Denpasar on Saturday, March 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Decky announced the decision in Denpasar, noting that 15 foreign nationals were among those receiving remission. The reductions varied from 15 days to a maximum of two months, in line with Presidential Decree No. 174/1999 and the Corrections Law No. 22/2022.

The symbolic handover of remission letters took place after Eid prayers at each prison and detention center. Bali’s corrections system oversees 11 facilities, including six prisons, four detention centers, and one juvenile rehabilitation institution.

Kerobokan Class II-A Prison in Badung Regency, which houses 1,730 inmates -- exceeding its capacity of 1,480 -- recorded the highest number of recipients. A total of 570 inmates there received remission, with 12 released immediately. Among them were five foreign nationals from Syria, Russia, Turkey, Palestine, and Malaysia.

Officials emphasized that the special Eid remission reflects the state’s commitment to uphold inmates’ rights, reward good behavior, and foster a sense of nationalism and civic responsibility.

As of March 18, 2026, Bali housed 4,654 individuals in correctional facilities, comprising 3,623 convicted prisoners and 1,031 detainees. The Eid remission program, authorities said, serves both as recognition of rehabilitation efforts and as a gesture of compassion during the holiday season. **(
