RRI.CO.ID, Kotabaru - Residents of Pantai Village in South Kelumpang Subdistrict, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan, welcomed the arrival of Syawal 1, 1447 Hijriah, with joy by preserving their local heritage through the annual tanglong festival.

South Kelumpang Subdistrict Head Sugeng explained on Saturday, March 21, 2026, that tanglong is a traditional parade of decorated vehicles, unique to the Banjar community of South Kalimantan, held to mark the beginning of Syawal.

“This tradition blends Islamic cultural expression, community creativity, and the spirit of mutual cooperation,” he said, adding that the event has become a source of pride for Pantai Village, reflecting the community’s commitment to preserving local traditions during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

Sugeng also expressed deep appreciation to all participants, praising their creativity in presenting decorations that were both beautiful and meaningful. For him, the tanglong festival is more than a competition; it is a cherished tradition for Pantai residents and the wider South Kelumpang community.

Pantai Village Head Hariansyah noted that seven groups took part in this year’s festival, parading their creations along a one-kilometer route around the village. He said the event is organized annually with community funding, with total prizes amounting to IDR 5 million.

Competitions were held in categories such as most beautiful tanglong, largest display area, and most creative decorations.

“This year’s festival was livelier than last year, which saw fewer participants and vehicles. We also added a communal meal for villagers to make the celebration even more festive,” Hariansyah said. ***
