RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - The onset of school holidays has fueled a significant spike in travel activity across the State-owned Railways Company PT. KAI Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta region. By the third day of the 2026 Eid homecoming period on Friday, March 13, the railway operator recorded a substantial increase in both arrivals and departures compared to the previous days.

Preliminary data as of 11 a.m, Jakarta time indicates that the total passenger volume for the day is projected to reach 43,503 by midnight. This figure includes 23,583 arriving passengers and 20,920 departing travelers, though the numbers remain dynamic as ticket sales continue.

The surge is notably higher than the second day of the homecoming period on Thursday, March 12, which served a total of 32,439 passengers, consisting of 16,874 arrivals and 15,565 departures. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, attributed this upward trend to the synchronized start of the long holiday break.

"Today’s increase coincides with the start of the school holiday period ahead of the long Eid break. KAI Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta has carried out various preparations to ensure that the Eid transportation service runs smoothly, safely, and comfortably for customers in response to the rising passenger volume, which includes adding train trips and enhancing facilities at major stations," Feni said as quoted by Antara.

To accommodate the influx, the Operational Area 6 has scaled up operations to 37 long-distance trains, a significant increase from the usual 25. Security has also been bolstered with 52 additional personnel through a collaboration between KAI, the Indonesian Military, and the National Police.

Furthermore, 28 Customer Service Mobile officers have been deployed to assist travelers. Additionally, six health posts have been established in partnership with dozens of local hospitals to ensure passenger well-being.

Of the total 525,350 tickets provided for the 22-day homecoming period from March 11 to April 1, approximately 334,082 seats, or 64% of capacity, have already been sold. With 191,268 tickets remaining, the management urges prospective passengers to secure their bookings immediately.

Leading the volume of arrivals are Yogyakarta Station with 10,179 passengers, followed by Lempuyangan, Solobalapan, Klaten, Purwosari, and Wates. A similar distribution is seen in departure figures, with Yogyakarta and Lempuyangan stations remaining the busiest hubs.

Feni reminded all travelers to double-check their schedules and arrive at stations early to ensure a comfortable and stress-free journey. ***
