RRI.CO.ID, Lumajang - The Lumajang Regency Administration (Pemkab) in East Java has confirmed that nine Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) from the region currently stationed in Saudi Arabia are safe and accounted for amidst shifting global geopolitics involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
This proactive monitoring is part of a broader effort to ensure that local citizens abroad remain protected under official government mechanisms during periods of international tension.
The group consists of eight healthcare professionals and one hospitality worker, all of whom were deployed through official channels between 2024 and 2025. By confirming their status, the local labor office aims to reassure families in Lumajang while maintaining a direct line of coordination with national protection agencies.
Head of the Lumajang Regency Labor Office, Subhan, emphasized that the ability to track these individuals is a direct result of their legal status. Workers who migrate through official, procedural routes are integrated into a national database that allows for rapid communication and intervention during crises.
“The nine PMIs are recorded as having departed through official companies. For those who departed unofficially, of course, their data cannot be entirely monitored,” Subhan explained during a phone confirmation on Saturday, March 7, 2026, as quoted by infopublik.id.
This distinction underscores the administration’s ongoing push for citizens to avoid illegal recruitment channels which often leave workers invisible to protective services.
While the local administration handles the tracking of its residents, the actual execution of safety protocols remains a collaborative effort with the central government. In the event that regional instability escalates, the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) and Consulates are prepared to trigger established protection mechanisms.
“If the situation requires special steps, the central government through state representatives abroad can take protective actions, including repatriation according to the protection mechanism for PMI,” Subhan clarified.
He noted that the regency remains in constant contact with national authorities to stay updated on Middle Eastern security dynamics.
The Lumajang administration has issued a formal advisory to its citizens in Saudi Arabia, urging them to prioritize personal safety and maintain active communication with Indonesian representatives. Families back home are also encouraged to report any changes in their relatives' status to the local Labor Office.
Through consistent monitoring and high-level coordination, the Lumajang Regency Administration aims to ensure its workforce can continue their professional duties abroad with the assurance of adequate protection. ***
