RRI.CO.ID, Palangka Raya – The Palangka Raya City Administration in Central Kalimantan, through the Agriculture and Food Security Agency, remains committed to strengthening the horticultural sector as a primary pillar of regional food security.

This initiative is designed to ensure an independent and high-quality food supply for all segments of the local community. Head of the Palangka Raya Agriculture and Food Security Agency, Sugiyanto remarked that increasing production is a strategic move to mitigate the impact of market price fluctuations.

"By optimizing potential land, the administration hopes to significantly reduce dependence on food supplies from outside the region," he said on Monday, March 2, 2026.

As reported by infopublik.id, the production boost program includes the distribution of superior seeds, the provision of agricultural infrastructure, and technical assistance for local farmer groups.

Sugiyanto emphasized the importance of implementing appropriate agricultural technology to ensure that local harvests remain competitive in both quality and quantity.

Beyond physical assistance, the Agency is also focusing on education regarding sustainable farming patterns. Farmers are encouraged to utilize organic fertilizers and efficient irrigation systems to preserve the environment while lowering production costs at the field level.

"The horticultural sector was chosen for its relatively fast harvest cycles and high economic value. This is expected to not only bolster food security but also serve as an economic driver for farming families in the suburban areas that serve as our production centers," he explained.

The Palangka Raya City Administration is optimistic that through synergy between the administration and the farming community, the target for city-level food self-sufficiency can be achieved.

Sugiyanto urged all stakeholders to continue innovating in the agricultural sector to realize a more independent and prosperous Palangka Raya. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
