RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is pushing for a strategic shift in regional commuting by urging satellite cities to take more responsibility for transit infrastructure. This initiative aims to intercept private vehicles before they ever reach the capital's borders.

Speaking at City Hall on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Governor revealed plans for an expansive collaboration with Bekasi, Tangerang, Depok, and Bogor to establish "park and ride" facilities and high-quality transit hubs in residential areas.

The initiative seeks to dismantle the long-standing habit of driving private cars into Jakarta’s core. Governor Pramono emphasized that the success of the city’s transportation network depends on the convenience offered at the start of a commuter's journey.

“I hope people don’t use private vehicles from their homes all the way to Jakarta. What I hope is that park and ride facilities are available near their respective homes,” remarked the Governor, as quoted by Antara.

Central to this cross-border strategy is the improvement of the Transjabodetabek bus system. The Governor remains committed to the bus service despite recent complaints regarding a lack of adequate stops in several neighboring regions.

He noted that rising public enthusiasm for intercity transit is a positive signal that must be met with better infrastructure. He specifically called on satellite administrations to invest in comfortable facilities to encourage a permanent shift in commuter behavior.

“I only hope the bus stops can be prepared well, so that whoever gets off won't be exposed to heat or rain,” remarked the Governor.

He further clarified that while Jakarta has historically carried the financial weight of these systems, the burden must now be shared to achieve a significant reduction in traffic congestion.

“Do not let everything become Jakarta’s burden. Currently, all transportation equipment is fully Jakarta’s, including the subsidies. The satellite areas must contribute by ensuring their facilities are ready,” he added.

As the demand for public transport grows, particularly in areas like Depok, the Governor maintains that the structural integrity of the regional transport plan relies on these peripheral cities.

By providing sheltered, safe, and accessible hubs close to home, officials believe the "park and ride" model will finally offer a viable alternative to the gridlock that currently defines the Greater Jakarta area. ***
