RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Administration is being urged to reimagine traditional Ramadan "takjil" bazaars as more than just seasonal markets. This transformation could potentially turn these snack markets into iconic cultural and economic landmarks for the capital.

Muhammad Al Fatih, Lawmaker of the Jakarta Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B, highlighted the massive potential of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) during the holy month. He argued that this potential should be harnessed through professional curation and structured management.

Speaking in Jakarta on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Al Fatih emphasized that a well-conceptualized bazaar would serve as a powerful branding tool for the city’s grassroots economy.

"This is important so that Ramadan in Jakarta has a strong signature of a people-oriented economy while effectively promoting local MSMEs," remarked Al Fatih, as reported by Antara.

He called upon the Jakarta Provincial Agency for Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) to move beyond informal setups and implement a more organized, themed approach to these seasonal events.

To ensure long-term success, Al Fatih noted that the administration must focus on aesthetic site planning, product quality control, and the provision of adequate facilities.

These improvements are designed to ensure that small business owners do not merely reap short-term profits but gain the foundation needed for sustainable growth.

By elevating the shopping and dining experience for visitors, the bazaars are expected to reinforce Jakarta’s identity as a dynamic hub for community-based commerce.

Digitalization remains a cornerstone of this proposed transformation. Al Fatih expressed his belief that integrating digital tools into the traditional bazaar setting will provide a strategic momentum for MSMEs to compete in the modern market.

"With digitalization, market reach is wider, transactions are more practical, and business recording is neater. MSMEs can be more competitive, not only during Ramadan but also afterwards," he explained. ***
