RRI.CO.ID , Pemalang - With millions expected to travel during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr exodus, the Central Java provincial administration is racing to repair thousands of damaged roads to ensure safer journeys and smoother economic activity.
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi announced on Wednesday that the province has identified 4,870 pothole sites across its 2,362 kilometers of provincial roads. The repairs are targeted for completion before the peak homecoming and return traffic flows during Lebaran 2026. “Our priority is to make sure these roads are safe and reliable for travelers,” Luthfi said, as quoted by Antara.
“This is not just a physical project; it’s about traffic safety, economic circulation, and supporting the growth of new economic centers.," he added.
Luthfi emphasized that road improvements serve three critical purposes: safety, meaning reducing accidents and ensuring smoother traffic flow; economic movement, meaning facilitating the distribution of goods and services; and regional growth, encouraging the emergence of new economic hubs.
The governor made the remarks during the inauguration of preservation works on the Randudongkal-Moga and Pemalang-Bantarbolang roads. He stressed that the government remains open to public input on infrastructure projects. “We welcome all feedback. Everything we do is for the people of Central Java,” he said.
The newly preserved roads are expected to provide immediate benefits for residents, serving as vital corridors for daily mobility and logistics. The Randudongkal-Moga road stretches 4.18 kilometers with a contract value of IDR 26.32 billion, while the Pemalang-Bantarbolang road extends 5.731 kilometers with a contract value of IDR 24.5 billion.
Luthfi expressed hope that these projects will ease travel during the festive season while strengthening long-term connectivity across the province. ***
