RRI.CO.ID, Kudus - The Kudus Regency Administration in Central Java is turning to national authorities to safeguard the future of local education following a string of destructive weather events. The Kudus Education, Youth, and Sports Agency (Disdikpora) has officially submitted a funding proposal to the central government to repair 58 schools ranging from playgroups to junior high schools that were battered by extreme rainfall and subsequent natural disasters.

As reported by Antara, the urgency of the restoration efforts was highlighted by Anggun Nugroho, Head of the Elementary Education Division at Disdikpora Kudus, who noted that the damage is heavily concentrated at the primary level.

"The affected schools are dominated by elementary schools, while the remainder includes playgroups, kindergartens, and junior high schools," remarked Anggun Nugroho on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Specifically, the damage report identifies 52 elementary schools, one playgroup, three kindergartens, and two junior high schools requiring intervention.

While the severity of the damage ranges from minor to moderate, the local administration is currently finalizing the financial requirements. Budgetary needs are still being calculated and will be formally presented once the Detailed Engineering Design (DED) or technical blueprints are completed.

Given that the infrastructure failures were a direct consequence of natural disasters, the aid request has been channeled through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

"We submitted the proposal to the BNPB, considering that the damage to school buildings is directly related to extreme weather disasters," explained Anggun.

The push for central assistance follows an initial report submitted to Kudus Regent, Sam'ani Intakoris, in January 2026, which served as a follow-up to the severe weather anomalies experienced last year.

Historical data from the region indicates that high-intensity rainfall between March 10 and 12, 2025, triggered a wave of floods, landslides, and structural damage across the educational sector.

In the interim, Disdikpora Kudus has taken proactive steps by identifying the specific needs of each affected site and drafting comprehensive guidelines for emergency and post-disaster management. These protocols are designed to ensure that teaching and learning activities remain uninterrupted despite the physical challenges.

"The hope is that central aid can be realized soon so that school repairs can be carried out and educational activities can return to being safe and comfortable," concluded Anggun. ***
