RRI.CO.ID, Cirebon - The Cirebon City Administration in West Java has officially pledged its support for the Ministry of Culture’s regional revitalization program following a high-level ministerial visit on April 3, 2026. This collaboration aims to restore and modernize several key cultural landmarks in the historic West Javanese city, ensuring they remain vibrant centers for education and the arts.
Cirebon Mayor Effendi Edo noted that the visit has created significant momentum for strengthening the synergy between central and local governments to realize these ambitious infrastructure goals.
“Certainly, we saw for ourselves during yesterday's visit that there are aid packages to be launched by the Minister of Culture,” the Mayor said in Cirebon on Monday, April 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
A primary focus of the national program is the revitalization of Cirebon’s historic palaces (keraton), which serve as the bedrock of the region's identity.
According to Head of the Cirebon Culture and Tourism Agency (Disbudpar), Agus Sukmanjaya, the planned upgrades will encompass all three major royal houses in the city. The revitalization program is set to include the historic Keraton (palace) Kasepuhan, as well as Keraton Kanoman and Keraton Kacirebonan.
These initiatives are part of a broader national strategy to reinforce the role of Indonesian palaces as vital centers for cultural education and heritage preservation. "If I'm not mistaken, it is indeed a revitalization plan for the palaces of the archipelago," Agus added.
Beyond the royal palaces, the city is prioritizing the development of the Nyimas Rara Santang Arts Center. The government plans to transform this facility into a fully representative Cultural Park (Taman Budaya).
Mayor Edo emphasized that these physical improvements are essential for the younger generation and local artists, providing them with dedicated spaces to practice traditional dance, music, and other performing arts.
"So that this can function again for our children or cultural arts activists, this arrangement program is very important," he explained.
The Cirebon City Administration remains optimistic that this multi-level collaboration will breathe new life into the city’s cultural spaces, positioning Cirebon as a premier destination for cultural tourism and historical research. ***
