RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - The future capital buzzed with energy on Sunday morning as around 1,000 runners participated in a 5-kilometer run. Participants moved through the Core Government Area, enjoying green spaces and the city’s developing urban landscape.
The event, known as the QRIS Run 5K, was held on Sunday, 8 February 2026, through a collaboration between Bank Indonesia’s Nusantara office, the Nusantara Capital Authority, and various stakeholders. Beyond promoting an active lifestyle, the initiative also aimed to introduce and encourage the use of QRIS, the national QR-based digital payment system, as part of efforts to accelerate financial digitalization in East Kalimantan.
Speaking at the opening of the event, Head of the Joint Secretariat Office of Bank Indonesia in the future capital, Syachman Perdymer, said the run served both as a sports activity and an educational initiative on digital payments.
“Through this event, we want to invite communities around the future capital to stay active so we can all be healthier while enjoying this city and its iconic buildings. At the same time, we hope participants become more familiar with QRIS, the digital payment system continuously promoted by Bank Indonesia,” he said.
Adding to this, Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation at the Nusantara Capital Authority, Agung Indrajit, highlighted the value of combining sports with digital literacy.
“We believe that combining sports and digitalization is an engaging approach. Going forward, Statistics Indonesia, Bank Indonesia, and the Nusantara Capital Authority will collaborate to develop market systems differently from those in Jakarta, including digital displays of market prices, inflation data, and economic literacy programs for traders,” he said.
Through the QRIS Run, the Nusantara Capital Authority and Bank Indonesia demonstrated how digital transformation can be introduced in an inclusive and accessible way. The integration of healthy living and digital economic literacy reflects the vision of a future-oriented city that prioritizes innovation, sustainability, and community engagement.
