RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - Indonesia is strengthening its commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental responsibility in Nusantara, the future capital city. The effort is being implemented through a community-based clean-up movement aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s ASRI initiative.
The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), together with local communities and multiple partners, organized a joint clean-up event at several nature tourism sites. The activity reflects the spirit of National Waste Awareness Day, which is observed annually on 21 February.
The program aims to promote responsible tourism practices while preserving the ecological value of emerging natural attractions within the Nusantara delineation area. Beyond reducing waste, the initiative also seeks to raise public awareness and encourage shared responsibility for environmental protection as part of long-term sustainable development.
Deputy for Environment and Natural Resources at the Nusantara Capital Authority, Myrna Asnawati Safitri, emphasized that the program goes beyond a simple clean-up effort.
“This activity allows us to explore nature tourism sites while practicing responsible tourism by taking concrete action on waste management. It aligns with the President’s ASRI initiative and coincides with National Waste Awareness Day. Let’s raise our standards and travel with greater care for the environment,” she said on Friday, 7 February 2026.
The clean-up action was carried out simultaneously at three nature tourism locations: Gunung Parung, Tembinus Waterfall, and Batu Dinding. These sites are among Nusantara’s developing natural attractions, making environmental cleanliness and conservation essential to their sustainable tourism potential.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of proper waste management infrastructure. At each location, waste separation bins were provided to support responsible disposal practices, making it easier for visitors to sort waste and reinforcing public education on waste reduction at its source.
Nearly 300 volunteers participated in the activity, including representatives from the Nusantara Capital Authority, local communities, Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis), government institutions, and other stakeholders. The diverse participation reflected the country’s strong tradition of gotong royong, or mutual cooperation, in environmental stewardship.
Through this initiative, the Nusantara Capital Authority aims to foster a culture of responsible tourism. The program also reinforces collective commitment to environmental protection, conservation, and quality of life in and around the future capital.
The activity was carried out with support from multiple stakeholders, including Bank Indonesia and Mayora Group.
