RRI.CO.ID, Kota Bandung - The Indonesian Forestry Ministry has officially revoked the conservation license for Bandung Zoo, prompting the Bandung City Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) to seal the premises on Thursday, January 5, 2026. This decisive administrative action marks a transition in management aimed at safeguarding regional assets and ensuring the welfare of the animals housed within the historic site.

Bambang Sukardi, Head of the Bandung City Satpol PP, clarified that the sealing process was a measured security step rather than an eviction. He emphasized that the primary goal is to reorganize governance while protecting local administration property. 

“Today we are conducting the sealing for our mutual interest. There are still animals and workers within the area, so security measures are carried out proportionally while prioritizing coordination,” remarked Bambang in Bandung, West Java, as quoted by Antara.

The agency plans to conduct comprehensive security of the zoo area to ensure that all regional assets remain protected during this period of uncertainty. Bambang reassured the public that the presence of Satpol PP serves as a supportive measure for the city administration to collaborate with all stakeholders. 

“This is not an act of displacement or execution. Our presence here is a form of support so that the city administration can resolve this matter properly,” he added.

Following the on-site operation, Bambang confirmed that all findings and field conditions will be reported immediately to the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan. This report will serve as the primary basis for the administration's next policy steps. 

The Bandung City Administration remains committed to maintaining the continuity of animal protection while ensuring that employees at the site are not neglected during the management transition. 

“We will communicate with leadership in the near future. In principle, this security measure is for the common good and the orderly management of regional assets,” remarked Bambang.

From a national oversight perspective, the Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) at the Forestry Ministry, Satyawan Pudiyatmoko, emphasized that the state must intervene when administrative issues threaten wildlife. 

“The state cannot allow animals to become victims of administrative problems. We revoked this license to ensure the animals at Bandung Zoo are protected and not abandoned,” asserted Satyawan.

The Forestry Ministry has committed to assuming full responsibility for the care and rescue of all animals for a maximum of three months. This interim period is intended to provide enough time to appoint a new, professional operator that meets international animal welfare standards. 

“Bandung Zoo is the pride of the people of West Java, especially Bandung City. The animals within it are a trust that we must protect together,” concluded Satyawan. ***
