RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - PT MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) Jakarta and developers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Study of the Potential Contribution of the East-West MRT Line Phase 2 (Kembangan-Balaraja) at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The signing, witnessed by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Banten Governor Andra Soni, was part of an effort to encourage the development of modern mass transportation.
"The signing of this MoU demonstrates the implementation of the third mandate given by the government to MRT Jakarta, which is to optimize the development of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) areas within a 700-meter radius of the stations," PT MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat said, according to the official Jakarta administration website.
Rather than just a document signing event, this event was a declaration of a shared commitment to the advancement of mass transportation with an emphasis on public services.
"This collaboration reflects the commitment of all parties to supporting an efficient and sustainable transportation system," he said.
According to Tuhiyat, the East-West Line is a strategic corridor between residential, industrial, and new growth centers in Jakarta and Banten Province.
In this context, MRT Jakarta is taking the initiative to assist the central government, as the project owner, by promoting connectivity and budget efficiency through collaborative studies with developers, particularly in Banten Province. Tuhiyat said that this phase is planned to be approximately 30 kilometers long, stretching from Kembangan to Balaraja.
From a financial and institutional standpoint, he expressed his hope that this research will help the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation better prepare for Phase 2 of the East-West Line.
"MRT Jakarta, along with the developers, is working to advance the TOD idea through this memorandum of understanding, which aims to enhance the community's quality of life in addition to its mobility. "This project is anticipated to be realized through robust synergy between the central government, local governments, and the private sector," he said.
Tuhiyat thanked the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia and Bappenas for their assistance and policy advice, as well as the Jakarta and Banten provincial administrations for their ongoing promotion of cross-regional connectivity. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the developers who signed the memorandum of understanding for their trust and dedication.
"There is no doubt that this partnership will generate novel solutions that alleviate the strain on public finances while simultaneously generating additional economic value for the area and its communities," he said in conclusion. ***
