RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - The Nusantara Capital City Authority (IKN) has partnered with the Joint Secretariat of Bank Indonesia (KOPERBI) to hold a capacity-building training program for Liberica coffee farmers in the Sukaraja Agro Tourism area on Monday, February 2, 2026. The program is part of efforts to strengthen the local economy by improving the quality and competitiveness of local flagship products in the IKN buffer zones.

The two-day intensive training involved over 20 local coffee farmers from Sukaraja, Semoi, and Tengin Baru villages. The program was designed to provide farmers with hands-on technical skills on coffee management while promoting the implementation of quality standards across the local coffee production chain.

Director of Food Security at IKN Authority, Setia Lenggono, emphasized that the training aims to empower farmers to produce high-quality coffee that can compete in wider markets.

“Building farmer capacity is key to supporting the economic independence of communities around IKN. Through this training, we want to ensure that farmers gain sufficient knowledge and skills, especially in post-harvest processes, so that local coffee quality improves consistently and achieves higher market value,” he said.

Head of the KOPERBI IKN, Syachman Perdymer, added that Bank Indonesia supports local economic resilience by empowering MSMEs, including harnessing the potential of Liberica coffee in the IKN area.

The training was led by Edi Kuncoro from P4S Rubath Kopi Jombang, a coffee farmer and trainer from Jombang, East Java. Participants learned both theory and practice, covering best practices from harvesting, sorting, fermentation, production, to marketing. The focus was on standardizing quality, as proper post-harvest processing is crucial for maintaining consistent coffee taste and aroma.

Even small mistakes can reduce quality or damage the quality potential of premium beans. Edi Kuncoro stressed the importance of discipline in every step of coffee processing.

“Coffee quality is determined by small details often overlooked—from harvest timing and cleanliness during sorting to fermentation control. If post-harvest steps are done correctly and consistently, farmers can produce coffee with a consistent flavor profile, suitable for specialty-grade classification, which commands much higher prices,” he explained.

One participant, Bagio, a farmer from Tengin Baru, shared that he gained valuable hands-on knowledge from the training.

“Until now, we processed coffee based on tradition. This training taught me the proper post-harvest steps and how to maintain quality so that the coffee taste is consistent. This opens opportunities for us to sell coffee at better prices,” he said.

Through this collaboration, the IKN Authority aims to develop a more professional and sustainable coffee farming ecosystem in the IKN buffer zones. By strengthening farmers’ capacity, the program seeks to improve the quality of local products, expand market access, and provide direct economic benefits to communities, in line with IKN’s commitment to inclusive development and local economic empowerment.
