RRI.CO.ID, Donggala – The Donggala Subdistrict Fisheries Agency in Central Sulawesi has reaffirmed its commitment to the Blue Coast Project, aimed at improving the welfare of local coastal communities.
The Blue Coast Project is a collaborative program spearheaded by the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, specifically the Directorate General of Marine Spatial Planning, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Ali Assegaf, Head of the Donggala Fisheries Agency, remarked that this commitment aligns with the local administration’s mission to alleviate poverty. The initiative also aims to stimulate economic growth across the coastal sector.
"This project will empower the entire coastal community, including fish farmers, fishers, and processing and marketing groups," said Ali during an interview at his office on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Ali further explained that the program will involve non-governmental organizations (NGOs), with funding secured through the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
"The financing is sourced from international funds via the ADB. We are currently preparing to roll out this program over the next six months," he noted.
According to Ali, seven priority locations across Indonesia have been designated for the program, with Central Sulawesi being one of them. "Donggala is among the sites in Central Sulawesi officially selected as a pilot for the Blue Coast Project," added Ali.
The selection of Donggala is based on the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). The subdistrict is recognized for its high potential in capture fisheries, aquaculture, and processing, as well as its vital coastal ecosystems, such as coral reefs.
Through the Blue Coast Project, the Donggala Fisheries Agency expressed its hope to achieve sustainable management of marine and fishery resources. This initiative is expected to deliver a tangible impact on the prosperity of coastal residents. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
