PLN Restores Power Grid in Central Sulawesi After Earthquake

RRI.CO.ID, Palu - Indonesian state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) has fully restored the power grid disrupted by the 6.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Central Sulawesi on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
As part of post-disaster recovery efforts, PLN accelerated repairs to electrical infrastructure and distributed logistical assistance and emergency lighting to affected residents.
Vice President of Distribution Control at Sulmapana PLN, Eko Prihandana, said the rapid restoration was achieved through strong coordination and teamwork in the field.
“The accelerated power grid restoration was carried out successfully thanks to the cooperation of all teams in the field,” Eko said in a written statement received in Palu on Sunday, June 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
PLN confirmed that all affected infrastructure is back in operation. Three feeder units, 15 network sections, and 651 substations were restored, reconnecting electricity for 68,459 customers.
The earthquake had caused outages across five areas in Central Sulawesi: Palu City, Donggala, Parigi Moutong, Sigi, and Poso. Several Customer Service Units (ULP) were also affected, including those in Palu City, Kamonji, Tawaeli, Donggala, Tambu, and Parigi.
Eko emphasized PLN’s commitment to meeting community energy needs during emergencies. Field officers remain on standby to monitor conditions and ensure reliable service.
“We remain on standby, present and supporting the community until conditions are fully restored,” he said.
Beyond restoring electricity, PLN has provided humanitarian aid to residents, particularly in Sigi Regency, one of the hardest-hit areas. Assistance was distributed through emergency posts and health facilities, including the Nokilalaki Subdistrict Post, the Palolo Health Center, the Nokilalaki Health Center, and the Palolo Electricity Emergency Post.
Aid included mineral water, rice, canned fish, medicine, clean water tanks, emergency supplies, and temporary lighting to support community activities and emergency response efforts.
According to data from the Sigi Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), as of Saturday, June 20, 2026, the earthquake damaged 2,335 houses.
Of these, 1,955 sustained minor damage, 226 moderate damage, and 154 severe damage. A total of 8,586 people, or 2,775 families, were affected, with 17 suffering serious injuries, 108 minor injuries, and three fatalities. ***
