RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Administration has identified 1,383 potholes across the capital as of January 21, 2026. Repair efforts are being conducted in stages by the Highways Agency Bina Marga at the subdistrict, administrative city, and provincial levels.

Siti Dinarwenny, Head of the Data and Information Center for the Jakarta Highways Agency, remarked that the mapping of road damage is ongoing. The current figures are subject to change as field verification continues.

"Data collection on road damage is still active and may be updated following further field inspections," said Siti in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

To minimize the risk of accidents, the Highways Agency has deployed "Yellow Troops" (road maintenance task forces) and local units for intensive monitoring. Any pothole deemed hazardous to motorists is addressed immediately.

However, current repairs are temporary emergency measures due to unpredictable weather conditions. "Patching is being adjusted according to the weather. Currently, it is a temporary fix to prevent traffic accidents," explained Siti.

She assured the public that permanent repairs using hotmix asphalt will commence once weather conditions stabilize. Hotmix is considered more effective for long-term maintenance and offers better resistance to extreme weather.

The restoration project will span across Jakarta’s five administrative cities, covering residential streets, provincial roads, and major thoroughfares.

Jakarta Province Governor, Pramono Anung, previously clarified why permanent repairs have not yet been fully implemented. He noted that high rainfall, expected to persist until early February, remains the primary obstacle.

"If we perform permanent repairs now, the asphalt will likely peel off within a day or two," he explained.

Citing the Gatot Subroto area as an example, the Governor emphasized that many roads require more than just patching, but also need a complete resurfacing with new asphalt. "It isn’t just about filling holes, but laying fresh asphalt, which takes time," added the Governor.

Governor Pramono confirmed that once the weather clears, the Highways Agency will be ordered to accelerate all road repairs.
